A submission for FUKT magazines open call responding to the theme of “Storylines”.
IDENTI-PLAST
A speculative project questioning how our bodies chronicle our lives.
Historically our physicality silently tells our stories and influences how we are perceived by others. This project looks into how this can be honed as a medium by focusing in on calluses, and how they are the tangible result of a personal act.
A callus forms in a place of repetitive friction, so it can be a signifier of a person's trade, skill or passion, something in which they have dedicated a lot of their life to, a callus is no quick occurrence.
Taking a critical view of how we control the narrative of our bodies, IDENTI-PLAST adhesive calluses allow you to instantly portray an aspect of your life which would usually take years of dedication to achieve. This idea
of faking authenticity, plays into the current aesthetic culture formed in our online presence and its contrasting relationship with physical reality.
This series of concept drawings for a hypothetical brand, takes a whimsical look
at the future of self expression and
capitalization of our bodies.
